Oh, The Irony of Karma
I know it's wrong to belittle someone right after they die, so I'll try and keep this above board and just stick to the facts. Ted Kennedy certainly lived by his convictions, however wrong they may have been.
But here's the thing - he was a politician's politician. Game player, deal maker, etc.
He was also the 60th vote.
He dedicated his ENTIRE life to universal health care.
He lobbied the Massachusetts assembly in 2004 to change the law - saying it would be unfair for a governor (then Republican Mitt Romney) to appoint an interim senator without a special election. Making the case that the people, and not a leader, should decide who governs them in Washington, he was worried then senator John Kerry would become president, leaving Romney to appoint an interim senator (probably a Republican). This was pure bullshit politics. No two ways about it. It was what Ted Kennedy did all of his life.
Just before his death, he had the outright nerve to write a letter urging Massachusetts to CHANGE THE LAW BACK! WHY? Because if he died, Massachusetts would have to wait 5 months for a special election - the VERY THING HE CALLED FOR in 2004. In that time, UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE would come up for a vote - and Massachusetts would only have 1 Senator representing them!! AND they wouldn't have the 60 votes needed to overturn a fillabuster - BECAUSE HE WAS THE 60TH VOTE!!!

Peanut Farming
Well, since there won't be a "public option" and hence no government run health care, and since it looks like cap and trade won't pass the senate, and since Michigan doesn't want the Gitmo inmates, and since the war in Afghanistan is turning into Vietnam, and since less than 8% of the stimulus is spent and the recession appears to be ending, and since Obama's top aides and advisors are lobbyists, and since not one bill has been posted on the internet 5 days before a vote, and since the deficit has ballooned by a multiple of four over GW Bush, it looks as if Obama's presidency is a complete and total failure. Too bad. Everyone hates him now - even his own Democrats don't feel like he has pushed his agenda through the way Bush did. All that has to happen now is stagflation (which is clearly on its way) and we have ourselves THE NEXT JIMMY CARTER!! YES!!
We even have hostages in Iran!!! Remember that?! The thing that ruined Carter, because he was too big of a PUSSY to get them back? Regan won, and on inauguration day, they were freed!! Here we go again.
The only thing Obama is good at is taking nothing off of the table. Have you noticed he keeps saying that "Everything is on the table. Nothing is off the table". This guy sucks balls. He is as wishy-washy as they come. He makes Bill Clinton look like a decisive objectivist.

The fact that SEIU was given a front row ticket to the negotiating table. The fact that Chicago style threats are being made to Senators and Congressmen. News Flash; Washington -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner asked Congress to increase the $12.1 trillion debt limit on Friday.

I've heard it said that it is OK for the government to owe 100% of GDP, after all, most American families owe more than they make in a year, so what's the big deal?
That analogy is not apt, and here's why: GDP is measure of the total output of the country. That would be the equivalent of the total gross sales of the company you work for. YOUR income is not that! YOUR income is substantially less. So is the government's.
The government's "income" comes from taxes and tariffs (and of course bribery, soft money and Chicago gangland protection dues). The government takes in about 2 trillion each year. THAT is the number you must go off of to see how FUCKED we truly are. It's not 100%, It's not 200%, It's not 300%, It's not 400%, It's not 500%. It's 600%. And growing by 50% per year (1 trillion).
600%. SO if you take home 50,000 per year, the equivalent debt the government is now running is $300,000 and growing by $25,000 per year. That's a $2000 per month payment, and you are making $1000 per week. Hmmm....
AND - next year it goes up to $2250 per month, then the year after it's $2500, then $2750, then $3000 in 2012. AND your income stays essentially the same. So now you're living on $1000 per month after your mortgage. Not possible, you say?
Exactly. If I were you in this situation, I'd - NATIONALIZE HEALTH CARE!!!
In a sick, sadistic sort of way I'm actually looking forward to seeing this play out, because Obama is so FUCKED it's HILARIOUS!!! He's literally between a rock and a hard place. That's why Geithner asked for a debt limit increase. His only other option was to ask the Fed to buy treasuries (ie monetize the debt) which makes the Chinese go bonkers!

Public Option
It's amazing that this term "public option" is being tossed around like a house salad at the Four Seasons, yet no one has said exactly what it is!! All we know is that it is a government run "option" to "compete" against private insurance companies to "keep them honest". ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!
There is SO MUCH wrong with that, I can't believe I feel compelled to even write about it, but because the media is simply letting it slide without proper interrogation, here we go.
If the government decided to open up a competing business with ANY business, and called it an "option", what would you think? Let's say they start a Starbucks Option, to keep the real Starbucks "honest". How much will the government charge for a cup of coffee? Then answer is: ANYTHING THEY WANT - THEY'RE THE GOVERNMENT - THEY CAN PRINT MORE MONEY IF THEY NEED TO. STARBUCKS CAN'T.
Let's say the government came out and said "A cup of coffee actually costs 15 cents to make. Starbucks is greedy. Plain and simple. We are here to keep them honest. So when you come to Government Starbucks, you will only pay 20 cents per cup." The government has NO IDEA what it takes to run a business. Marketing, payroll, distribution, the myriad of taxes, forms, regulations that go into running an American corporation these days. Keep in mind the government DOESN'T HAVE TO PAY TAXES!!! SO ANY GOVERNMENT "OPTION" WON'T HAVE TO PAY TAXES!!!! HOW CAN A REAL INSURANCE COMPANY POSSIBLY COMPETE AGAINST THAT?!?!?!? THEY CAN'T!!!!

Either Way, We Lose (444)
Obama is out toting his "stimulus" package. I'll keep this brief because it's easy to grasp, simple, and yet I haven't heard any media cover it this way:
IF the stimulus is what is seemingly pulling us out of this recession, then it is due to less than 10% of it - because by the White House admission, less than 10% has been spent. That means that we DON'T NEED THE OTHER 90% - or 700 BILLION DOLLARS. 70 Billion was enough, if Obama is correct that the stimulus has worked.
IF the free market is pulling us out of the recession, meaning that 70 billion had essentially zero effect on a 13 trillion dollar economy, THEN WE DON'T NEED THE OTHER 90% -or 700 BILLION DOLLARS.
IF the Fed's injection of roughly 2 TRLLION is what is pulling us out of the recession, THEN WE DON'T NEED THE OTHER 90% - or 700 BILLION DOLLARS.
When will we learn you can't spend your way out of a recession, you have to PRINT your way out. Anyone remember Jimmy Carter? 20% interest rates? Get ready.
Speaking of Carter, anyone remember 444 days? Iranian Hostages? Reagan's inauguration?

Which Way Do We Go?
Obama's press conference last night was a lesson in politics 101. He was brilliant, articulate, convincing, rhetorical, and malfeasant. I don't want to dwell on how amazing it is that he gets away with saying the bullshit that he does, we all know it by now, particularly if you've read some previous blogs here. Let's just say: He Did It Again. And, It's All Fucking Bullshit.
Here's what's really going on:
Everyone agrees that our "health care system" is flawed, and needs to be fixed. Has anyone defined what our "health care system" is? I haven't heard it. One thing it definitely is: It's the finest in the world, by far, no questions asked. Funny that Obama has never EVER said that - I wonder why? Millions of people every year try to crawl across our border to receive what is undeniably the finest health care the world has ever seen.
Now, the costs of it are rising substantially, this is a fact. But WHAT IS our health care system, and how did it get to this point?
Prior to the 1960's, our health care was almost entirely a free market based system. In 1965, Lyndon Johnson signed into law Medicaid and Medicare. Since that time, we've had a "mixed" system of part free-market health care, and part government directed health care. A lot like our country as a whole, this welfare state, mixed economic system is headed for complete collapse. Why? Because Medicaid and Medicare are BANKRUPTING OUR NATION. If you look at the numbers, these two programs BY THEMSELVES will RUIN us very soon. We are on the hook for somewhere between 20-40 TRILLION dollars to cover the baby boomers medical bills and social security. In case you don't know, the government spends about 3 trillion per year to run the entire country right now. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the looming bankruptcy.
What most people do not want to think about, admit, or concede is that HEALTH CARE IS NO DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER COMMODITY. There is a supply (of doctors, drugs, and equipment) and there is a demand (from patients - all of us at some point.) As much as the liberal dreamers, who live in La-La land and want everyone to have the best of everything all the time, try to ignore it - HEALTH CARE, LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE, CANNOT ESCAPE THE LAWS OF SUPPLY AND DEMAND. PERIOD.
This, in my view, is the crux of the problem. People want to "elevate" health care above everything else, as though they can simply "separate" health care from reality. WHY? BECAUSE PEOPLE NEED IT! Ah - Marxism. Love it.
Let me ask you this - and notice no one is asking this question - Why did the American Health Care System become the best in the world,
bar none? Do you think it was because of A) Medicaid and Medicare, or B) The Free Market. Hmmmm, let's think for a second - socialized government run programs have a long track record of fostering innovation, improving quality, lowering costs, creating miraculous breakthroughs in cutting edge science and technology - I mean ,just look at....the....Post Office!!!
Any baboon can quickly understand that only the competition of the free market can do these things, just as government run programs can only do the opposite. So it is the competition and genius of the people in the private sector that gave us the best health care the world has ever seen.
Why has the cost of health care skyrocketed? Ever heard of Supply and Demand? Econ 101, Obama. If you offer free health care (or any other commodity) to the poor and the elderly, the demand shoots through the roof. What happens when you increase demand and keep supply constant?! Skyrocketing prices! Imagine if we offered free campbells soup to the poor and the eldery, and kept the supply constant. $10 per can.
So, now the question is, in this mixed economic situation, which direction do we head to get us out of this? More toward government control and socialization, or more toward free market competition? Again, let's ask a baboon.
Obviously we need to go toward free markets if we want to continue to have the finest health care in the world. None of us wants to see people dying in the streets, so we need solutions that are market based, and offer a voluntary safety net program for those that cannot afford it. This can be done, because it was done already in the past. In its hayday, 90%+ of Americans afforded their own private health insurance, and there was a social safety net (albeit not voluntary). We need to return to those days. They were called the 1980's.
If we move toward total government control, which is what Obama wants (WHY?!!) then we will turn into the rest of the world. Oh goodie. I can't wait until I have to wait 6 months to see a specialist.
If we move towards free markets, we will continue to be the envy of the world with regards to health care.

Millions of people every year try to crawl across our border to receive what is undeniably the finest health care the world has ever seen.
Now, the costs of it are rising substantially, this is a fact. But WHAT IS our health care system, and how did it get to this point?
Prior to the 1960's, our health care was almost entirely a free market based system. In 1965, Lyndon Johnson signed into law Medicaid and Medicare. Since that time, we've had a "mixed" system of part free-market health care, and part government directed health care. A lot like our country as a whole, this welfare state, mixed economic system is headed for complete collapse. Why? Because Medicaid and Medicare are BANKRUPTING OUR NATION. If you look at the numbers, these two programs BY THEMSELVES will RUIN us very soon. We are on the hook for somewhere between 20-40 TRILLION dollars to cover the baby boomers medical bills and social security. In case you don't know, the government spends about 3 trillion per year to run the entire country right now. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the looming bankruptcy.
What most people do not want to think about, admit, or concede is that HEALTH CARE IS NO DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER COMMODITY. There is a supply (of doctors, drugs, and equipment) and there is a demand (from patients - all of us at some point.) As much as the liberal dreamers, who live in La-La land and want everyone to have the best of everything all the time, try to ignore it - HEALTH CARE, LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE, CANNOT ESCAPE THE LAWS OF SUPPLY AND DEMAND. PERIOD.
This, in my view, is the crux of the problem. People want to "elevate" health care above everything else, as though they can simply "separate" health care from reality. WHY? BECAUSE PEOPLE NEED IT! Ah - Marxism. Love it.
Let me ask you this - and notice no one is asking this question - Why did the American Health Care System become the best in the world,
bar none? Do you think it was because of A) Medicaid and Medicare, or B) The Free Market. Hmmmm, let's think for a second - socialized government run programs have a long track record of fostering innovation, improving quality, lowering costs, creating miraculous breakthroughs in cutting edge science and technology - I mean ,just look at....the....Post Office!!!
Any baboon can quickly understand that only the competition of the free market can do these things, just as government run programs can only do the opposite. So it is the competition and genius of the people in the private sector that gave us the best health care the world has ever seen.
Why has the cost of health care skyrocketed? Ever heard of Supply and Demand? Econ 101, Obama. If you offer free health care (or any other commodity) to the poor and the elderly, the demand shoots through the roof. What happens when you increase demand and keep supply constant?! Skyrocketing prices! Imagine if we offered free campbells soup to the poor and the eldery, and kept the supply constant. $10 per can.
So, now the question is, in this mixed economic situation, which direction do we head to get us out of this? More toward government control and socialization, or more toward free market competition? Again, let's ask a baboon.
Obviously we need to go toward free markets if we want to continue to have the finest health care in the world. None of us wants to see people dying in the streets, so we need solutions that are market based, and offer a voluntary safety net program for those that cannot afford it. This can be done, because it was done already in the past. In its hayday, 90%+ of Americans afforded their own private health insurance, and there was a social safety net (albeit not voluntary). We need to return to those days. They were called the 1980's.
If we move toward total government control, which is what Obama wants (WHY?!!) then we will turn into the rest of the world. Oh goodie. I can't wait until I have to wait 6 months to see a specialist.
If we move towards free markets, we will continue to be the envy of the world with regards to health care.
